My brother Jerry Taylor came to Panama City to help sail across the Gulf to Cedar Key. We went through the inland waterway from Panama City to Apalachicola. It was a nice quiet trip, but the waterway was a bit small in places. Spent the night in a small cove.
Next day we went on through the waterway and anchored in Apalachicola. Went into town to grocery shop and got soaked on the dingy ride, so walked around town in soaked clothes and 40 something degree temp. Found a nice coffee shop to warm up in.
Next morning shoved off with cool temps and a nice breeze. Only incident was me having too much fun sailing fast and not navigating. Hit a bit of Dog Island Reef....good thing we were going fast...cleared it in one bounce.
About 4 that afternoon we jumped out into the Gulf at Carrabelle. Had a bit of weather..I got very seasick. But, the next day the weather settled down and we made it into Cedar Key about sunset. We anchored in the beautiful bay and took a dingy ride into the dock....a cold Sprite at the local bar really helped. |
